reading blogs and talking to myself.

did you know that they make diamond tipped blades to cut through rock? i always forget that precious materials like diamonds can also have functional value. i always think of them as strictly a luxury item. and while i often question the true value of a luxury item like precious metal or rare stones, in daily life i never really question that they sell for a high price (even when i dont remember any functionality)

seye was talking about karl marx tonight, and it reminded me about one of his theories. marx supposes that the closer we are in our work to our survival, the more fulfilment we will get from this work. btw, he didnt mean pulling a paycheck to pay for food. closer to survival means closer to survival. like hunter gather farmer deal. we are kind of insulated these days.

right now im listening to bon iver - flume.

could a strict needs based society really address needs? we have to eat, find shelter, drink. but without culture, would our needs really be met? i dont think so. i think artists have a humongous
social responsibility. if we didnt have the arts we would be fucked. and if artists do a shitty job, they let us forget the intangible needs that art fulfills.

i think we should be artists and farmers. perma-culture farmers (joel salatin). all of us. and i dont want to hear youre petty arguments on the contrary, i wont be swayed.

now im listening to saves the day - cant stay the same
