i wonder what place how much of an impact our ancestor's culture impacts us or is beneficial to be in touch with. neither of my parents grew up speaking the language of their forefathers. im not sure if my grandparents did either. in college there was always an emphasis on embracing your culture. i dont really identify with one, other than american i guess. i mean i try to play up being 50% dutch, but its kind of just a novelty. they do have a nice football team, pioneered windpower, and have tulips? anyway, it probably is more important if the generational gap is a little smaller and that seems pretty good. but do we lose something important when that cultural identity seems to lessen throughout the generations? im not sure. maybe the point is just to be mindful of where you came from, appreciative but objective.
