semi-related, but later in life:
i was just asking alexis recently- what did girls do afterschool? i think i was always out doing things, like running in the woods, or biking, or exploring sewers kind of stuff. or playing vidoegames and swimming. in highschool we skated pretty much everyday. i guess we just "hung out" a handful in highschool. (granted i did watch the christopher lowell show and trading spaces and draw and nap). its silly to think that girls did not participate in all the same kind of outdoor/active things, or that guys did particpate in all these activities...still i cant help but wonder.

I can't speak for girls, but I am one, so maybe the following counts.
in elementary school: I built forts in the woods, invented detective agencies and clubs, made pinatas, rolled down the hill, built dams in the creek, played with Polly Pockets
in middle school: um, some of the above but also I watched more TV
in high school: ate snowballs with my friends, drank coffee at the Safeway Starbucks with friends, cried because I had so much APMEH homework, and talked to people that I rarely talked to in school on AOL
joel your pretty awesome
in elementary school: I played in the woods and the river, put on skits and dances, made up all sorts of running away from the orphanage or nazis games, rollerbladed, swam in the neighborhood pool, biked trails through the woods, and played with my Barbies and dolls. I also did ballet, played piano, and swam on the neighborhood swim team.
in middle school: all of the above except the Barbies and ballet
in highschool: i played basketball and some volleyball and ate some snowballs with my friends
